
Facts about the region
The region OstWestfalen-Lippe is located in the northeast of the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia which is situated close to Lower Saxony.
The region Lippe is an area of outstanding natural beauty with its Teutoburger forest in the southwest. An extensive moorland is situated southwest from the Senne. To the north of the moorlands is an extensive hilly landscape situated up to the river Weser.
In Lippe live some 360,000 inhabitants in 16 cities and municipalities. The biggest city Detmold (around 75,000 inhabitants) is the site of the district government for the area of Ostwestfalen-Lippe and the site of the local government of the district Lippe.
Lippe is one of the most important industrial regions in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). More than 35% of the employees subject to social insurance contribution work in industrial enterprises (NRW 28%).
Lippe is the center of connectivity technology. Two enterprises of Lippe dominate the world market for interface and bus technology.
